The rap industry is trying to come to grips with the tragic death of rapper Juice WRLD. Earlier this month Juice WRLD (Jarad Anthony Higgins) died suddenly after landing at Chicago’s Midway International Airport. Initial reports were that he died of a seizure. I found it odd that a person that young would die suddenly of a seizure. Reports from the hospital were there were no signs of foul play.

Later, news leaked that Juice WRLD may have died from an overdose related to Percocet:

Amid the confusion and anguish surrounding this young man’s death, unidentified sources told TMZ that Juice WRLD was “seen swallowing several Percocet pills” in what was believed to be an attempt to hide them. His girlfriend told agents that he had been taking the opioid painkiller, according to The Guardian. Juice was also reportedly given Narcan, an opioid antidote, by a federal agent in the Chicago airport. While there is no official indication that Percocet was behind Juice’s death, two medical professionals spoke EXCLUSIVELY with HollywoodLife about how this painkiller might have led to his end.

Apparently, the police was checking the airplane for guns and drugs, and Juice WRLD tried to hide evidence by swallowing Percocet pills. Again, the story kept getting even more bizarre. First of all, how would the police know there were guns and drugs on Juice WRLD’s plane? Someone must have tipped them off. Secondly, of all the planes flying into the Midway, why would the police be so interested in his? Was he a threat to public safety or something? It all seemed so senseless.

The incident comes as the country is reeling from an opioid epidemic. Percocet is an opioid that is prescribed to people in extreme pain. It is also highly-addictive. Why someone, who may not have been suffering from acute pain, would have a bag of Percocet pills is beyond me. Trump And The GE Parses The Opioid Crisis recently discussed the opioid epidemic and proliferation of opioid pills on the market.
