Trump And The Global Economy (“Trump And The GE”) is fast-becoming the top speaker series in the country. We bring together economists, politicians, pollsters, entrepreneurs, etc. to parse President Trump’s policies and how they impact the community. There was so much star wattage at Trump And The GE Does Fashion Week that I had wear my sunglasses inside. However, the star of stars may have been comedian TK Kirkland.
A few days before the event I was walhlking past Bryant Park in mid-town when I spotted someone who looked like TK. I was like, “Hey man. Are you the guy with the jokes?” Dude was a lot bigger than I had expected, so if it wasn’t TK Kirkland then it could have been a problem. The encounter seemed more like two grown black men acknowledging one another. Kirkland seemed like someone I grew up with or was related to. I told him about Trump And The GE, he gave his number and I texted him the details.
Kirkland walked in as Senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal, Torian Mitchell (AYCE Network) and Shock Exchange were waxing poetic about the economy. This may have been a seminal moment. We need entertainers like TK to speak for us. First of all, humor is simply a way of saying something serious. Secondly, entertainers have a large platform and can reach people Trump And The GE simply cannot reach. Our next events are Trump And The GE Cures The Varsity Blues May 8th and Trump And The GE Tackles Student Debt August 15th. Will TK flow through?
