McCaskill is also in a heated battle with Missouri Attorney General Josh Hawley for her senate seat, so she could be on edge in general. President Trump is on his way to Missouri to stump for Hawley and Missouri is Trump country. Trump won Missouri in 2016 with an 18 point margin over Hillary Clinton. McCaskill is obviously feeling pressure. In calling Chappelle-Nadal a “crazy democrat” she was likely trying to curry favor with rural Missourians pre-disposed to voting republican.
Can McCaskill fight a war on three fronts – Hawley, Chappelle-Nadal and Trump? She seems unhinged and willing to do battle with anybody in order to keep her seat, including throwing a fellow-democrat under the bus. What is not debatable is that all eyes will be on Missouri over the coming weeks.
