Taking a knee to me … what Kaepernick is doing is bringing attention to this police state we’re in … A lot of African Americans get on national TV and say “It’s always been that way.” I don’t think that … When I was my son’s age I used to live in Washington, DC and my friends and I painted the town red. We never did anything illegal … We came close to the line. We never thought about seeing the police … If we saw a police officer we felt safe

… I would be concerned about the police if I saw a police officer today because I would think they were trying to stop me to get a fee or something. Whether it’s to meet a quota, to raise more money for the city or become Chief of Police in a day I think they are trying to do something.

ESPN and the media do not want NFL players to shine a light on the police state we live in. It took 30 years to get to this stage and will take decades to undo it. Per Maria Chappelle-Nadal, the players are using their role, space and place effectively. ESPN obviously wants to stop that progress before it builds more steam.
