The Shock Exchange agrees with both Kenny and Charles. UMBC barely made it out of their conference tourney. They beat Vermont on a last second shot by Jarius Lyles. Lyles was sensational against the Cavaliers and they simply had no answer for him. This was a major upset. The Shock Exchange has been looking for a number 16 seed to beat a one seed forever. It finally came. Virginia tries to be everyone 58-53 – even in games where the competition is outmatched.
At halftime of the UMBC – Virginia game it was 21-21. This wasn’t about defense. This was about Virginia’s methodical play and a bunch of missed shots. UVA didn’t use its size inside on offense. They also flailed around and begged the referees for calls on offense. Virginia caved and UMBC kept swinging. That’s why they play the games.
