Why Mr. Campbell’s Voice Is Necessary
Mr. Campbell’s perspective is of heightened importance today. First of all, Mr. Campbell helped raise the public discourse; the public discourse is currently filled with emotion, name-calling and mealy-mouthed words leading to nowhere. By presenting arguments based on life experience (Mr. Campbell was actually alive when George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton were in office), facts, and deep research, Mr. Campbell forced Ms. Harris and her supporters to respond in-kind. All we received in return were “crickets.”
Secondly, Mr. Campbell just put politicians on notice. African Americans are disinterested in campaign slogans or which rapper a particular candidate prefers. We expect to parse through candidates’ track records and demand a clear explanation of their policies and how they impact us. Anything short of that and we will likely assume the worst.
