The whole statues issue … in the former Soviet countries that was a big issue. If you’ve ever been to Hungary, outside of Budapest they have a place called “Statues Park.” In Russia and Poland they had all these statues of communists like and Lenin and Marx and they were all smashed. In Hungary they said let’s not do that. Let’s take them to a place 30 miles outside of town, put them in a giant enclosure and call it Statues Park and charge people $10 to see them.
There’s a lot of difference between Robert E. Lee and Nathan Bedford Forest. There are still 15 statues of Nathan Bedford Forest in the South. Nathan Bedford Forest was 80 years ahead of his time as far of racism … Nathan Bedford Forest was like Hitler. He wanted to kill the black people. He also founded the Ku Klux Klan after the war.
This was a key point in the discussion. Nathan Bedford Forest should not be mentioned in the same breath as Jefferson Davis or Robert E. Lee. His statue should be removed. If someone wants to worship the KKK then they public should not be required to witness it.
