McLaughlin on Obama:
One of our major theories to why Donald Trump could win that election was because he was running against Hillary Clinton, and Hillary Clinton was not Barack Obama … I thought Barack Obama could have been president because I was doing a lot of polling in Illinois at the time. He came out of nowhere as a state senator to win a big, tough primary. He went and took that senate seat … there was something inspiring about him. Though I may come from the republican side of the aisle, he can really light of the democrats, giving them a lot of hope. You could tell he was rising star way back when in Illinois.
McLaughlin’s observations shook the audience. While the mainstream media assumed Hillary’s presidential bid was a shoe-in, the experts saw it differently. It also seemed to confirmed that the mainstream media – New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, etc. – may have thirsted for Hillary, but the they did not reflect the views of the country. While the media can make or unmake authors and films, it could not make a president.
