UMBC pulled off arguably the greatest upset in NCAA history Friday night. The number 16 seed dispatched one seed Virginia, making themselves the first 16 seed to beat one seed. It wasn’t even close. The Retrievers outscored Virginia 53-23 in the second. UVA only gave up an average of 53 points all season. Jarius Lyles gashed Virginia with multiple drives to the basket while, forward Joe Sherburne connected from deep to spread the floor and put keep Virginia on its heels. Great guard play, defense and the ability to control the boards are keys for mid-majors in the bid dance. Can they do it again against Kansas State.
The Shock Exchange recently found out that Stringer Bell from HBO’s The Wire attended took business classes at UMBC part-time:
UMBC is doin’ this for Stringer Bell

Stringer Bell used muscle when he had to. UMBC will have to rely on their inside muscle to defend the paint and keep the bigger K-state team off the boards.
