LeBron James is in a contract year with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He will be a free agent after the season and the “LeBron sweepstakes” will be back on. The Shock Exchange understands that Cleveland, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Philadelphia 76ers and the Houston Rockets are all in the running to bid for LeBron’s services. Last night the Cavs were down to the Lakers by 19 points when Lakers GM accosted James’s agents – Maverick Carter and Rich Paul of Klutch Sports.
If the Shock Exchange could have a fly on courtside. Klutch Sports manages several players so there is no telling what or who they were discussing. The tete-a-tete between the men did draw lots of media scrutiny. The Kang could change the fortunes of a lot of teams next year. He would immediately make the Lakers championship contenders – assuming he is accompanied by another star free agent like Paul George – and Magic will be highly-scrutinized as the Lakers GM.
The media loved Magic as a player, but as a general manager … not so much. The media and fans tend to think that blacks either cannot manage or are taking a job that a white man could have. The Shock Exchange has a feeling the media will give Magic a much shorter leash than it would if Magic was white. If he doesn’t deliver a chip in the next two – three years then he will see the whites of the media’s eyes. Just saying … No pressure Magic.
