The police had been searching for the Lexus when they approached the car Friday morning. The driver initially appeared compliant, but suddenly opened fire on the officers as he sped away. No one was injured, but the officers returned fire and then the chase ensued. Anyone willing to open fire on police officers is considered extremely dangerous. The logic goes if a person will should a cop then he/she is liable to do anything. Also, while you might be able to outrun one or two police officers it is darn near impossible to outrun that police radio.

The police gave chase and there were oftentimes other officers waiting ahead of the suspect at different intersections. The suspect was also being followed by a helicopter from above. His girlfriend might have prevented the incident from becoming deadly.

Baltimore became a place of interest nationally after the death of Freddie Gray at the hands of police two years ago. Gray was hanging out on the block when apparently he ran off after seeing policemen approach. They gave chase, arrested gray and gave him what is known as a “rough ride” in the back of the police van. Gray died of apparent head injuries received in the back of the van. District Attorney Marilyn Mosby tried to prosecute the officers for murder then all hell broke loose. All of white America, particularly the media, was offended by Mosby’s attempt to bring America’s bodyguards to justice. The media thwarted Mosby at every turn and turned the lens onto Baltimore, its high poverty and crime rates.

The media will likely use the recent police chase as evidence of Baltimore’s criminals run amok and the “difficult jobs” police officers perform on a daily basis. Attacking Baltimore is a de facto defense of police tactics and a deflection of any notion of bias in the criminal justice system.

On Trump And The Global Economy

Wuyi, Coconut Rob, Shock Exchange, Professor Brogman stunt for the ‘gram

The second installment of Trump And The Global Economy Town Hall took place October 24th in Fort Greene. It Featured Professor Lance Brofman, Coconut Rob (Coconut Rob Smoothies), Wuyi Jacobs (AfroBeats Radio) and Ralph Baker, author of Shock Exchange: How Inner-City Kids From Brooklyn Predicted the Great Recession and the Pain Ahead.

The event was well-received by the community. We parsed through President Trump’s proposed tax plan and [i] how it was pure economic folly and [ii] high net worth individuals could potentially game the system by shifting income around. Apparently, Kansas Coach Bill Self did this when the state of Kansas cut taxes in the past. We discussed the pros and cons of technology on workers and the economy. How will the economy and country prosper under Trump’s leadership vis-a-vis Obama? What’s behind the verbal sparring with black athletes, ESPN’s Jemele Hill and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un?
