Sherra Wright-Robinson, the ex-wife of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright, was arrested in California under suspicion she was connected to his murder:
Authorities say the ex-wife of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright has been charged with first-degree murder in his death more than seven years ago.
Memphis Police Director Michael Rallings said Saturday that Sherra Wright has been charged in the death of her ex-husband, a Memphis native who played for five teams over 13 seasons as a forward and center in the NBA.
Police in Riverside County, California, arrested Sherra Wright on Friday night on a fugitive from justice warrant, online records show.
Wright starred for the Memphis State Tigers (now Memphis University) in the mid-90s. He was drafted by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 1996 draft and eventually played on three other NBA teams – the Atlanta Hawks, Memphis Grizzlies, and Sacramento Kings.
Wright’s body was badly decomposed when authorities found him in wooded area in July 2010. The former NBA player stood 6’11” and 225 pounds. He weighed only 57 pounds when his body was uncovered. His condition prevented his family from providing an open casket at the funeral of one of Memphis Tennessee’s favorite sons. The seven year investigation remained one of the Memphis Police Department’s unsolved mysteries.
The original thesis was that the murder was drug-related. In 2008 Wright sold a Mercedes Benz and a Cadillac SUV to Bobby Cole, a well-known member of the Petties gang. Cole had been indicted in 2007 for distributing drugs; he also had to forfeit thee automobiles, still in Wright’s name to authorities. Wright claimed no knowledge the automobiles were used as part of any criminal activity. When Sherra Wright has been questioned about the murder, she even intimated Wright was hard up for some fast money and was potentially involved in selling drugs.
