Russia invaded the Ukraine a few weeks ago and it has dominated the 24-hour news cycle. President Biden had discussed the possibility of Russia invading the Ukraine months prior to the invasion. Apparently, Russia had been performing military exercises prior to the invasion. There had been a lot of gamesmanship between Russia, the Ukraine and the United States for years. In the past Putin had accused NATO forces – including the U.S. – of performing military exercises in the Ukraine. I understand that this was against agreement signed by the former Soviet Union after it broke into 15 different countries when Mikhail Gorbachev was president.
Ukraine was also forbidden from joining NATO. The people of Ukraine voiced a desire to join NATO when former president Barack Obama was in office. Putin chafed at this, and it probably set in motion some of the turmoil currently going on in the Ukraine. At Trump And The GE: Putin Invades The Ukraine, we examined why Putin invaded, Russia’s end game and how it will impact the U.S. and global economy.
